For Boarding Parents
In this section you will find useful information regarding our boarding program at Baylor. Please explore and let us know if you have any questions.
Partnership with Parents
The folks within the residential community are certainly aware how
difficult it is sending a child away to school. We partner with parents
on many levels to help ease the transition to the boarding community.
Communication is the key to this partnership and we encourage parents to
be connected to our First Class email system and to never hesitate to
contact the school with a question or with a suggestion to make the best
better!
Getting Started: "Baylor Welcomes"
New parents receive a folder we call "Baylor Welcomes" in early
summer. The information provided will help answer some of the most
commonly asked questions about computers, dorm room needs, and uniforms.
Transitioning New Students
Throughout the year, we work as a team to help our students adjust to
the Baylor community. The grade deans, residential life office,
counseling office, academic support, and dorm parents work together to
help your child be as happy and successful at Baylor as possible.
Specifically, Lisa Drew, associate director of residential life, works
throughout your child's first year to help create a smooth transition
into Baylor's campus life including grade meetings, workshops, outings
and fun activities
Dorm Heads and Advisers
Once students have moved into their residence hall, the approach used to
achieve the educational objectives mirrors the individualized, caring
approach, that is used in the Baylor classrooms. Dorm teachers work with
students to help them establish and refine study skills that will help
them succeed in the classroom on a nightly basis. Our advisers are
experienced with this age group and work with students to set goals and
make thoughtful and appropriate choices. They also allow students the
opportunities to make decisions, solve problems and to try their hand in
leadership roles.
