Baylor 11, GPS 1. Baylor scored nine runs in the sixth inning to beat GPS 11-1 in the winners' bracket final of the state softball tournament Thursday. The Raiders will have to beat the Bruisers again on Friday for the state championship. GPS will have to beat Baylor twice for the title. The Raiders pounded out nine hits in the big inning and took advantage of two Bruiser errors. And while scoring 11 runs, Baylor left 11 more on base including leaving the bases loaded in two of the six innings.

Maya Mathis was the big run producer Thursday, driving in three despite having just one hit. Braleigh Angel was 2-for-4 with two RBI, Cassi Pickett was 3-for-3 with a double, Precious Birdsong was 3-for-4 with a double, Haley Andrus was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Noelle Winkles had a hit and an RBI, and Lauren Lewis and Kelsie Clark added singles. While the offensive stars abounded, pitcher Kaitie Sims quietly went about scattering five hits, three in the second inning, and striking out four in the six inning complete game.

Baylor, 39-5, goes for back-to-back state titles for the third time and the seventh championship for the school on Friday.
