Baylor's Health Center

• Upper School athletes must have physicals and forms (by going to the link provided above) completed prior to participating in any organized team activities, including camps and practices that begin as early as June 1.
• All other new and returning families must complete and return the required medical questions and return the forms (by going to the link provided above) by July 31.
• If you do not complete the required forms and information by this date your child will not be able to access his/her schedule when it is posted in early August.

The Health Center is staffed with registered nurses each evening and on weekends. In addition: A nurse practitioner is available to see and treat all students:

Monday - Friday, 8.a.m. - 4 p.m.

Students may self-refer or appointments can be made by parents.

Erlanger North Hospital is five minutes away from our campus, in the event that there is a need for x-rays. T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital is available for any emergency room visits or inpatient needs.

The Health Center maintains a very close relationship with Food City, Red Bank pharmacy. If your student has been given a prescription by either our provider or one off campus, we are happy to pick it up and deliver it to them here at school. If the prescription has been written by a provider from home and the student calls in the refill to Food City, Red Bank pharmacy, they simply need to send an email to us, and we will pick it up for them. It is for these reasons it is imperative we keep a front and back copy of their health insurance card on file so we are able to provide this service. Please remember to fax us new copies should your insurance change or new ID cards be issued at any time throughout the year. Our fax number is: (423) 757-2874.

A student's (day and boarding) annual health fee of $40 is automatically assessed at the beginning of the year through the FACTS student billing system.  This annual fee covers most school nurse care including a wide variety of over the counter medications such as Tylenol, Advil, Benadryl, and multiple cough and cold preparations. Allergy injections can be given as well once we receive the serum and instructions from the allergist. Sick visits can be scheduled any time throughout the year including the summer months.

Our nurse practitioner is available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. For day students we require a parent to make the appointment, or send written approval (email is fine) for your child to be seen. If a prescription is given, we can send it to your local pharmacy.

NOTE:  The student’s account will be billed directly for services that require a One to One health provider.  Every attempt will be made to notify parents/guardians if this extra level of care is needed.

The Health Center keeps extended hours for our boarders in an attempt to accommodate all of their medical needs. Should they feel ill during the night, it is advised they call the dorm parent on duty, who will have a thermometer and a limited supply of over-the- counter medications. 

During regular hours, boarders are permitted to rest for part of the day here should they feel ill. We do not notify parents if one or two classes are missed, but we will phone if it appears they are going to miss most or all of the school day. We encourage students to communicate with their parents regarding minor visits to the Health Center. Should parents have any questions or concerns, we encourage them to phone the nurse directly at 423-267-8506, ext. 239.

For boarding students needing off-campus appointments such as orthodontics or orthopedics, the Health Center staff is available to schedule these appointments and arrange transportation. Students should always sign in and out of the Health Center for all off campus medical appointments especially if they are driving themselves.

Insurance Requirements for Boarding Students

Injuries that occur while your child is boarding will be covered by our Baylor policy as a secondary insurance. This means your primary insurance will be billed first. Please read the information carefully that is mailed to you from our business office as it will give you specific instructions on how to communicate with and report the injury to the insurance company. Please be sure to make copies of all insurance correspondences.

Boarding students need a U.S. based insurance policy with a U.S. based claim mailing address and phone number.

Seasonal flu vaccine are highly recommended for boarding students unless a parent requests otherwise. We feel strongly that students living in such close proximity to each other are at a high risk for spreading this contagious virus. We will administer this by dorm in the fall.

Covid-19 vaccines are also highly recommended for boarding students and can be administered at the parent's request.

• 2 doses MMR
• 2 doses Varicella or proof of disease
• Hepatitis B series (2 or 3 depending on vaccine used)
• 3 doses Tetanus with at least one Tdap
• 4 doses of IPV
• Meningitis vaccine is required for boarding students and strongly recommended for day students

The only vaccine exemption accepted by Baylor School is a medical exemption and requires a letter from a licensed physician.
