In November of 2005, Dr. David Abshire ‘44 established the National Consortium for Character-Based Leadership and invited Baylor to be the first secondary school in the country to join in the effort. Based in Washington D.C., the Consortium seeks to develop and disseminate creative approaches to character and leadership education by facilitating dialogue among educators and representatives from government, business, journalism, health, and sports
Dr. Abshire is a 1944 graduate of Baylor School and currently serves as president of the Center for the Study of the Presidency. Dr. Abshire previously served as Assistant Secretary of State during President Richard Nixon's first term and as Special Counselor to President Reagan during Iran-Contra. Through these experiences he became committed to preparing young men and women for the ethical and leadership dilemmas they will face as they complete their educations and enter careers.
