Leadership Baylor Faculty

When the call went out among faculty, staff, and administrators for volunteers who would be willing to help develop a curriculum and lead weekly classes for the school’s Leadership Baylor program, the Baylor community rallied with an overwhelming response.

Each Thursday, faculty members meet with students in the Upper School to conduct Leadership Baylor classes. Some of these individuals focus on leadership specifically; while others share their expertise in academics, college counseling, and wellness. An additional core group is involved in developing, evaluating, and tweaking the curriculum and lesson plans throughout the year – even during the summer months. Individually they represent an impressive array of leadership experiences and unique personal perspectives. Collectively they share a common vision on the importance of teaching leadership to today’s youth.

Leadership Baylor Faculty

Comments from Our Faculty
“Leadership Baylor helps students explore and develop their own leadership styles, and is a vehicle for translating and implementing that leadership in a way that supports our school-wide mission: to instill in students the desire and ability to make a positive difference in the world. Its goal is to give students a vital part of their education: to develop skills within themselves which can lead to action outside of themselves, in the world that they are in the process of creating.”

- Elijah Anderson-Barrera, Leadership Baylor /Language Instructor

“…through Leadership Baylor, students are given opportunities to discover their own individual strengths and weaknesses and are offered the tools they will need to further develop their own unique leadership skills. They are also given opportunities to lead. Learning by doing is widely accepted as the best way to gain understanding. Every Baylor student is given the assignment of being a leader in an activity or circumstance of his or her own choosing. The revelation that comes to students as they realizes that not only can they make a positive difference in the world, but that they ARE making that difference, is amazingly empowering. The experience Leadership Baylor offers can, and does, change lives.”
– Marti Wayland, Leadership Baylor /Math Instructor

"I believe that the process of looking at one's strengths and weaknesses while being exposed to leadership skills and opportunities is yet another and perhaps the most valuable opportunity that Baylor affords its students. Capitalizing on individual strengths and sharpening one's weaknesses will better prepare to deliver Baylor's mission of making a positive difference in the world. "
- Thad Lepcio, Athletic Director/Student Leadership
