Advanced Placement Courses

Our AP courses provide opportunities for advanced specialized study and college credit.

• In 1954, Baylor led the way as the first school in the South - and only one of 38 secondary schools - invited to participate in the new Advanced Placement (AP) program. Today, Baylor offers AP college level courses in 22 subjects.
• On average, over 80 percent of Baylor students taking AP exams earn scores of 3 or higher (out of a possible 5), often making them eligible to receive college credit or waive required college courses in the subject covered by the AP exam. In 2004, Baylor students wrote 470 AP exams. Of that group, 352 qualified students to receive college credit.
• Baylor now has sophomores taking AP chemistry, juniors taking AP calculus, AP English, AP languages, and AP sciences, and seniors choosing from the full slate of offerings.
• Last year 130 of 165 seniors (79% of the class) took at least one AP exam ; 87 of 180 juniors (48% of the class) took at least one AP exam; and 14 of 169 sophomores (8% of the class) took AP chemistry.
