What Parents Should Know

Above all, the writing center serves the Baylor writer for, as one writing tutor explains, the writing center "approaches tutoring on a person-to-person, individual basis, focusing on each person's ways of learning."

The Baylor Writing Center serves students through both walk-in hours and scheduled appointments. Students can use the Center without an appointment during HELP periods Monday through Wednesday and on Friday. On Thursday, "walk-ins" are during E period. These times are good for students who need help at the last minute or have questions requiring short answers. If a writer has more substantial work, he or she should schedule a 25-minute appointment with Dr. Penti. Please note that not all appointments are voluntary because several students are required to attend weekly appointments. Deans, advisers, and teachers, for example, may have students work weekly in the writing center to gain additional support for and experience with writing. As well, many students having issues with the freshman and sophomore competency essay tests work with writing center tutors.
