Writing Center

The Baylor Writing Center embodies the best of writing center philosophies as a place where writers can explore issues of writing outside of the classroom as well as gain confidence in their abilities. Here a writer can work one-on-one with a trained tutor on:

  • planning, developing, organizing, revising, and editing essays and paragraphs;
  • developing effective writing, and study strategies;
  • interpreting assignments;
  • planning and executing research;
  • finding meaning in texts;
  • reflecting on past writing experiences and anticipating future ones.

Within a tutoring relationship, the writer gains a useful support because, as one Baylor writing tutor puts it, "The writing center cares about the writer, not merely the writer's paper—this is the crux of the writing center."

Our Tutors Speak

"During my first two years of high school I attended a public school where I never wrote a paper.... The writing center has helped me learn the process of developing a paper and, therefore, has made me feel more prepared for college. My tutor ... has been extremely helpful as a tutor, but she has also made my emotional transition into Baylor so much easier.... She has helped me more over the past year than she probably realizes.... Every time I come out of the writing center, I feel like I improve both my papers and my writing techniques."
