The Baylor Writing Center embodies the best of writing center
philosophies as a place where writers can explore issues of
writing outside of the classroom as well as gain confidence
in their abilities. Here a writer can work one-on-one with
a trained tutor on:
- planning, developing, organizing, revising, and editing essays and paragraphs;
- developing effective writing, and study strategies;
- interpreting assignments;
- planning and executing research;
- finding meaning in texts;
- reflecting on past writing experiences and anticipating future ones.
Within a tutoring relationship, the writer gains a useful
support because, as one Baylor writing tutor puts it,
"The writing center cares about the writer, not merely
the writer's paper—this is the crux of the
writing center."
