Baylor’s English as a Foreign Language (EFL) plays a vital role in the success of our international students. Our EFL students attend classes with the American students for full academic credit and also attend daily EFL classes where they can work at their own level and speed to build their English language skills. Emphasis is placed on the development of each student’s speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Should an international student require help with oral or written English skills, additional assistance is available through our Writing Center. All Baylor students are assigned an academic adviser and “extra help” sessions are built into the class schedules for individual instruction with teachers. The school also offers (and requires in some cases) weekend help in study skills and English classes.
Some of the topics in EFL include:
- U.S. Culture
- World history and world events
- vocabulary, grammar, and writing
- “Fun Fridays” – An exploration of American culture and significant moments in U.S. history through the music and lyrics of artists such as Bessie Smith, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and others.
College Counseling
Baylor’s international students receive exceptional support for gaining admission to the fine universities throughout the world, and our college counselors are specialists in helping students choose the right university for their personal goals. Along with academic support, TOEFL, SAT, and ACT preparation is offered to juniors and seniors interested in improving their test scores related to the university application process.
