Leadership Opportunities

As the entry point for the majority of Baylor students, the sixth grade works to build the foundation of study skills and knowledge necessary for students to become effective leaders. This foundation of skills build character, and reinforce self-esteem. For example, in addition to the study skills taught within the context of individual classes, each child takes a Literacy Strategies course designed to fortify reading comprehension skills. Over the course of the year, sixth grade students also take part in a wide variety of advisery activities and workshops on such topics as bullying prevention, nutrition, and goal setting.

While there are fewer opportunities for leadership in the sixth grade (opportunities become more prevalent as a student moves up each grade), students are provided numerous venues to serve as leaders. Some of these opportunities include:

  • Elected and appointed class officers and Student Council members
  • Athletic team captains
  • Junior Red Circle admissions guides
