What Parents Say About Baylor

We asked current Baylor parents to respond to the following question: “How does Baylor compare to the school you attended?”

Bob Hartje

Type of school attended: Coed public school
Parent of day students Mathew '07 and Rebecca '10

The school I attended had 1600 students in ninth through twelfth grades. The biggest difference between the schools is the level of involvement — student, teacher and administrative. We had lots of clubs and activities, but we had nowhere near the participation level that Baylor enjoys, and extra-curricular activities were not required. In addition, Baylor has smaller classes, better athletic performance, and a wider selection of advanced classes. The Baylor teachers are enthusiastic and supportive. They take a real interest in the lives of their students. The atmosphere of gentle encouragement and the emphasis on developing the self-skills (e.g., self-confidence, self-starting) help distinguish Baylor. My school was predominantly white while Baylor provides a nice diversity of students and promotes understanding of different cultures. I wish that I had had the wealth of opportunities that Baylor provides. And I wish that I had had teachers infused with a Baylor mindset to encourage me to participate and develop my mind, spirit, and body.
